The Role of Emotional Intelligence in Enhancing Patient Care and Team Collaboration in Nursing Practice

Posted: Sep 02, 2022

Abstract

This research investigates the transformative impact of emotional intelligence (EI) on nursing practice through a novel computational framework that quantifies EI's influence on patient outcomes and team dynamics. Unlike traditional qualitative approaches in nursing research, this study employs machine learning algorithms and network analysis to model the complex relationships between nurses' emotional competencies, patient satisfaction metrics, and interdisciplinary collaboration patterns. We developed the Emotional Intelligence Quantification Index (EIQI), a multidimensional scoring system that integrates physiological markers, behavioral observations, and self-assessment data to provide a comprehensive measure of EI in clinical settings. Our longitudinal study tracked 245 nurses across three hospital systems over 18 months, collecting over 15,000 data points through wearable sensors, electronic health records, and structured observations. The findings reveal that a one-standard-deviation increase in EIQI scores correlates with a 27
