The Role of Nurse Practitioners in Enhancing Preventive Care for Cardiovascular Disease Patients

Posted: Mar 13, 2023

Abstract

Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of mortality worldwide, accounting for approximately 17.9 million deaths annually. Despite significant advances in treatment modalities, the preventive care landscape for CVD patients continues to face substantial challenges, including fragmented care delivery, patient non-adherence to therapeutic regimens, and inadequate follow-up monitoring. Traditional physician-centric models have demonstrated limitations in addressing the comprehensive preventive needs of this population, particularly in the context of growing patient volumes and increasing complexity of care requirements. This research addresses a critical gap in the literature by systematically examining the distinctive contributions of nurse practitioners in transforming preventive care paradigms for cardiovascular disease management. The evolving healthcare environment has witnessed an expanded role for nurse practitioners across various clinical domains, yet their specific impact on cardiovascular preventive care remains underexplored through rigorous methodological approaches. Previous studies have predominantly focused on quantitative metrics of NP effectiveness, often neglecting the qualitative dimensions that characterize their unique care delivery patterns. This investigation bridges this methodological divide by implementing an innovative mixed-methods framework that captures both objective clinical outcomes and the subjective experiences.
