Evaluating the Impact of Simulation-Based Learning on Clinical Competency Development in Nursing Students

Posted: Feb 13, 2023

Abstract

This study investigates the transformative potential of immersive simulation-based learning environments on clinical competency development in nursing education through a novel mixed-methods approach combining quantitative performance metrics with qualitative phenomenological analysis. Unlike traditional studies that focus primarily on skill acquisition, this research examines the complex interplay between technical proficiency, clinical judgment, and emotional intelligence development across different simulation modalities. We implemented a longitudinal design tracking 187 nursing students through their educational progression, employing high-fidelity manikins, standardized patients, and virtual reality scenarios to create increasingly complex clinical situations. Our methodology incorporated real-time biometric monitoring to assess stress response patterns and decision-making under pressure, providing unprecedented insight into the psychophysiological dimensions of clinical learning. Results demonstrated that students exposed to progressive simulation sequences showed 47
