Exploring the Impact of Mental Health Stigma Reduction Training for Nurses in Psychiatric Units

Posted: Feb 04, 2016

Abstract

This research addresses a critical gap in the literature by developing and evaluating a comprehensive stigma reduction training program specifically tailored for psychiatric nurses. Unlike previous interventions that have often taken a generic approach to stigma reduction, our program incorporates elements specifically relevant to the nursing role in psychiatric settings, including crisis management, therapeutic communication, and the unique challenges of working with severe and persistent mental illnesses. The program's theoretical foundation integrates social cognitive theory, contact theory, and principles of transformative learning to create a multifaceted intervention that targets both cognitive and affective components.
