The increasing cultural diversity of patient populations presents both opportunities and challenges for contemporary healthcare systems. Nursing education programs bear significant responsibility for preparing future nurses to provide culturally competent care that respects patient values, beliefs, and practices. Traditional approaches to cultural competency education have primarily relied on classroom instruction, case studies, and limited clinical exposures that often fail to capture the complexity and emotional dimensions of cross-cultural healthcare encounters. This research addresses critical gaps in current educational practices by developing and evaluating an innovative pedagogical framework that leverages immersive virtual reality technology to enhance cultural competence development among nursing students. Our study emerges from the recognition that cultural competence extends beyond mere knowledge acquisition to encompass affective and behavioral dimensions that are difficult to cultivate through conventional educational methods.
