Novel approaches to computer system documentation standards for banking operations

Abstract

This research introduces a transformative framework for computer system documentation standards in banking operations, addressing critical gaps in traditional approaches that have failed to keep pace with the complexity of modern financial systems. Current documentation practices in banking suffer from fragmentation, inconsistent formats, and inadequate coverage of emergent technologies such as blockchain integration, AI-driven compliance systems, and quantum-resistant cryptography. Our methodology employs a multi-layered documentation architecture that combines semantic modeling, automated documentation generation, and context-aware knowledge representation. We developed a novel documentation ontology that captures not only system functionality but also regulatory compliance requirements, risk assessment parameters, and operational dependencies across banking subsystems. The framework was validated through implementation across three distinct banking environments: traditional retail banking, investment banking operations, and digital-only banking platforms.
