Comparative study of banking sector innovation culture and digital capability development

Posted: Jan 21, 2022

Abstract

The contemporary banking sector stands at a critical juncture, navigating the complex interplay between traditional financial services and rapid digital transformation. While substantial research has examined technological adoption in banking, the cultural dimensions of innovation and their relationship to digital capability development remain inadequately explored. This research addresses this gap through a novel comparative framework that transcends conventional technological determinism in banking innovation studies. The accelerating pace of fintech disruption, changing consumer expectations, and regulatory evolution have created an environment where organizational culture may represent the decisive factor in successful digital transformation, yet current literature lacks robust methodologies for quantifying this relationship. Traditional approaches to banking innovation have predominantly focused on technological infrastructure, financial investment, or regulatory compliance, often treating organizational culture as an ancillary consideration. This study challenges that paradigm by positioning innovation culture as the central determinant of digital capability development.
